What you'll be doing...

As part of Verizon's Experience Design team, you'll have the chance to impact one of the largest consumer presences in America, supporting millions of daily customer interactions across an omnichannel ecosystem and a growing consumer product portfolio. With global offices and hybrid work environments, the team is assembling the brightest designers, design strategists, and product managers to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, shaping the future of the customer experience.

As a member of the Verizon Design Systems team, you will drive the continued evolution and adoption of a world-class, multi-channel Design System comprising a visual language, an interaction language, a verbal and audio language, patterns for use, and coded templates and components for implementation. The Design System team provides creative direction, interfaces with teams across our B2C, B2B, Media, Technology, and Marketing divisions, and is accountable for the successful development and integration of the Design System into hundreds of millions of dollars of development work that enables billions of customer touchpoints.

As Design System Product Management Associate Director, you will lead and manage teams to deliver best-in-class design solutions grounded in user, product, technology, and business requirements through collaboration with partners. Departments across Verizon look to you for direction and fresh perspectives. In addition to focusing on customer experiences, you are responsible for career growth and performance management of direct reports while also increasing team morale.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Drives product strategy, stakeholder alignment and business case development.

  • Leads the development, prioritization and management of product roadmaps with key stakeholders.

  • Provides direction, guidance and translates business needs into functional and technical requirements for designers, engineers and other key stakeholders. This might include performing analyses, defining user stories/acceptance criteria, working with teams to develop solutions to meet these requirements and to test and deliver experiences with the customer in mind

  • Thoroughly exploring, refining, and documenting the design solutions.

  • Actively exploring user context, and engaging in target user activities when possible.

  • Participating in insight-gathering activities (informal or formal, primary or secondary) and creating design solutions that leverage user insights.

  • Actively researching competitive products, industry trends, and topics.

  • Staying updated on Verizon's business, strategy, and organizational structure.

  • Effectively designing solutions within Verizon's business context and revenue model.

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of UI standards for common platforms (iOS, Android, Web).

  • Working within Verizon's front-end and back-end technology constraints and capabilities.

  • Giving and receiving constructive feedback.

  • Actively identifying, escalating, and helping remove impediments keeping your team from being productive.

  • Identifying the pros and cons of possible design approaches to assist with decision-making.

  • Helping navigate sensitive tradeoffs with higher-level leadership.

  • Making partners stronger by teaching design-led processes and best practices.

  • Building relationships and facilitating meetings with Business Unit Owners and executive leadership.

  • Advocating for the team and recommending approaches that allow designers to do work aligned with development goals and interests.

  • Encouraging design community participation through group events/activities.

  • Seeking opportunities to contribute thought leadership to the broader design community.

  • Leading your team by providing performance feedback, reviews, coaching, and direction.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience leading a team.

  • Experience with Agile software delivery environments.

  • Experience with common design software (Figma, Adobe, etc.).

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design.

  • Portfolio of professional work.

  • Contributed to multiple design programs or shipped products with a large user base.

  • Managing a design system.

  • Contributed to overall product success.

  • Experience with Fortune 500 organizational environments

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington work location, the compensation range for this position is between $142,000.00 and $263,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
