Assists Cardiologist in performing phased array Echocardiography. Trained in all other procedures.

Job Responsibility

  • * Prepares patient and equipment for procedure.
    • Reviews Echocardiogram requisition as ordered by Cardiologist.
    • Notifies Nursing Unit of scheduled patient exam and coordinates time and transport of patient to exam room.
    • Positions patient on examination table for optimum testing procedure and conditions.
    • Explains procedures in layman terms to relieve patient of pre-testing anxiety.
    • Makes settings on machines to obtain desired results, using technical judgment and following established standards.
  • * Monitors patient condition by direct observation to recognize and report abnormalities to the Radiologist.
  • * Performs minor repairs and adjustments of equipment when necessary.
    • Documents efficiency of equipment to ensure quality control.
    • Troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment by performing minor repairs, as necessary.
    • Recognizes and reports major problems to management for resolution.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Physics and familiarity with pertinent medical/surgical diseases as normally acquired by the completion of a Bachelors Degree, required.
  • Graduation from an AMA approved Ultrasound training program.Current New York State certification as Diagnostic Sonographer, preferred.
  • Registry eligible by National Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), required.
