The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Research Nurse Navigator is a Registered Nurse who will facilitate and augment patient recruitment to Oncology clinical trials within the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Medical Center. This position reports directly to the Research Nurse Manager. Subject to business needs, a flexible work arrangement, 4- or 5-day hybrid work week, is available. Options will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

RECRUITMENT

  • Perform phone triage for patients/caregivers who are interested in clinical trials.
  • Identifies and contacts prospective study participants in collaboration with treating physicians.
  • Assesses appropriateness for participation in clinical trials.
  • Performs outreach to Community, Health Care Providers, Sponsors, Advocacy and Support groups.

CARE COORDINATION:

  • Assists in gathering outside medical records.
  • Facilitates required evaluations with guidance of study team.
  • Assists with access issues.
  • Serves as a liaison between the patient and the provider.

PATIENT/PROVIDER EDUCATION

  • Assist patients in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options and resources available.
  • Providing education regarding clinical trials to patients, family members and collaborating physicians.

OTHER:

  • Administrative
    • Develops relationships with all oncology providers including but not limited to medical oncologists, radiation oncologist, surgical oncologist, radiologist, pathologist, and primary care physicians.
    • Assist w/ pre-certifications and prior authorization.
    • Develops as well as maintains tracking metrics and quality indicators.

  • Training
    • Self-directed review of new protocols, and reeducation on existing protocols.
    • Completing required study-related training (i.e. review of educational slides; industry-required additional GCP testing).
  • Eligible to apply for Research Nurse Navigator II after two years.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required; plus, four years of related experience.
  • Valid New York State RN License.
  • Oncology nursing experience and/ or clinical trials required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Conflict of Interest (COI) upon hire.
  • Nurse navigator experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Computer Skills: proficiency with MS Word and Excel programs and familiarity with Mac and PC platforms.
