The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, sciences, invites nominations and applications for a Part-Time Technologist A.


Job Description:

The Fashion Technologist A will provide assistance to students and faculty. The technologist is responsible for monitoring the Fashion sewing lab, maintain locker database and assign Fashion lockers, maintain and work with tutoring center on tutors schedules for sewing lab, train work studies, assist students with threading and minor sewing machine and dress form issues, maintain lab cleanliness.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Work with students to obtain lockers.
  • Assist students with minor sewing machine set up or issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of locker inventory.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • 3-5 years of appropriate experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate hand skills and practical fluency with sewing machines and irons. This position requires the ability to take initiative and ability to follow through, oversee and complete projects.
  • Knowledge of sewing machines and irons.
  • Microsoft Word, Google Docs, spreadsheets for locker database upkeep
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
  • Communicating effectively, both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions
  • Ability to remember information such as words, numbers, pictures and procedures
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted
  • Ability to constantly sit, stand, occasionally bend, frequently walk and lift 10-20 lbs.


Additional Information:

Review of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled. Successful completion of a background check is required for appointment to this position once an offer has been made.

Salary

Salary Range: $31.06 per hour

The dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Rate: $31.06 per hour with step increments per Salary Schedule 89, after 18 months of service and annually thereafter.

Days/Hours: M-F, 25 hours per week, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
