Our team provides expert veterinary care to support the welfare of animals and their people through our emergency ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH). AAH is designed to provide lifesaving, subsidized care exclusively for animals whose owners are experiencing financial challenges and could not otherwise afford medical care for their pets. Additionally, AAH relieves the suffering of victims of cruelty and neglect who come to us through our internal partners: ASPCA Adoption Center, Kitten Nursery, Community Medicine, and Community Engagement (CE) teams; and our external partners: NYPD and other NYC organizations.

What you'll do:

The AAH Medical Staff Floor Manager will be responsible for elevating the quality of patient and client care through operational efficiency. They will partner with the medical managers to direct operational workflow and provide leadership to our team, with ongoing coaching and training to ensure ASPCA policies and Fear Free Guidelines are consistently followed. The Floor Managers are responsible for establishing a safe and compassionate environment for our patients, clients, and team by fostering a supportive, positive, and productive work environment.

Wed-Sat 10am-8pm

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

People Management:

  • Attend daily rounds & meetings to ensure optimal workflow and empower teams to problem-solve.
  • Build and maintain strong-performing teams. Utilize training, coaching, and continuous on-the-floor feedback to drive performance and ensure the teams have what they need to be successful.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels at all times; re-assign appropriate responsibilities to each staff member to maximize coverage in the event of callouts, injuries, increased volume, etc.
  • Support staff in appropriate and professional handling of any adverse client or patient events.
  • Work with the medical team to optimize daily operational flow and lead as an example on the floor filling in gaps as deemed necessary.
  • Perform all the duties of an AAH Licensed Veterinary Technician as needed.

Team Development & Training:

  • Assist in coordinating all intern, LVT, and HVA training and onboarding.
  • Monitor employee effectiveness to ensure excellent quality of care for hospitalized patients, pursuant to ASPCA policies and Fear Free Guidelines.
  • Mediate and/or de-escalate employee conflicts and manage disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Listen to and understand employee concerns, encouraging staff to problem solve and provide viable solutions.
  • Promote and ensure the continual and consistent practice of using organizational core values and behavioral competencies. Set personal and team yearly goals and manage the yearly review process for all direct reports.
  • Consistently provide high-quality feedback to direct reports, conduct quarterly one-on-ones with all directs to build strong relationships, provide clear direction, and encourage opportunities for development.

Operational and Managerial Support:

  • Oversee the general and preventative maintenance needs for all AAH medical equipment.
  • Maintain oversight of Controlled Substance Reporting and all DEA records and ordering including controlled substance reporting and technician's Cubex registration and training
  • Oversee standards for all supplies including medical, basic animal care & blood supply.
  • Provide management with suggestions to update systems and procedures as necessary to maintain the highest level of patient care and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.

The target hiring range for this role is $86,500 - $91,500. In addition to a competitive salary, this role offers a signing bonus.

Education:

  • New York State Veterinary Technician License required.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Experience working in a veterinary hospital preferred
  • Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Ability to plan, organize and effectively lead in a high-paced and fast-moving environment.
