Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a creative, enthusiastic Social Media Assistant to help manage our social media accounts for the School of Nursing. Are you a strong writer with social media experience? Do you have a passion for storytelling, love to exercise your creativity, and want to learn more about marketing, advertising, and public relations at a highly-ranked institution? This position could be just right for you!

Under Rutgers' flexible, hybrid employment policy, this part-time position can combine work-from-home and on-campus hours. We'll work with you to create a regular weekly schedule that accommodates your needs.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Helps develop and implement social media strategies and tactics to increase brand awareness and engage with key audiences including prospective and current students, faculty, and staff; as well as alumni and other supporters.
  • Conceptualizes, schedules, creates, and posts relevant content including written posts, photos/images, stories, short-form videos, and infographics.
  • Becomes the social media pro as they interact with followers, answer DMS and comments, track and report on metrics, and continually learn and apply leading-edge practices to help grow the social channels.
  • Provides opportunities for you to cover special events and programs and write website content such as news stories, blog posts, and feature articles.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, digital marketing, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience writing for PR, marketing/advertising, journalism, and or websites, is a major plus.
  • Experience as a social media specialist, content creator, or similar role preferred.
  • Some photography/videography experience is welcome; video and photo editing is a strong plus.
  • Experience with social posting platforms such as Sprout, or Hootsuite is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills are required.
  • Social media knowledge with some experience, beyond personal accounts, is required.
  • Requires a good eye for photos and graphic design.
  • Requires good organizational and planning skills.
