The anticipated salary range for this role is between $140,000.00and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The GRC Business Architect works with SMBC's Governance, Risk and Compliance ("GRC") Transformation Office ("TO") team to assist the GRC business program management office for the implementation of an enterprise wide GRC eco system.

The GRC Business Architect role works with subject matter experts in departments across SMBC's Americas Division to align on how the system should be designed and configured. This role will have an enterprise-wide view of SMBCs GRC requirements and will recommend the design decisions for senior management consideration. It includes, but is not limited to, the development and ongoing maintenance of an overarching execution roadmap, business, and data architecture, maintaining RAID logs, design decisions and status reporting. The role also requires facilitating the implementation of a consistent target operating model using strong governance and control environments, effective communication and liaising with relevant stakeholders, technology and vendor partners to drive agenda and successful execution of the agreed upon roadmap. Support production of data analytics, metrics, and management information is necessary for appropriate management oversight, internal engagement, and effective program execution. Collaborative organized and coordinated approach with all related work streams and business lines is required for driving change.

Role Objectives

The job responsibilities are described herein:

  • As a part of the GRC Transformation office, the GRC Business Architect is an individual contributor role that supports the delivery and adoption of an enterprise wide GRC tool.
  • Support several framework components such as operational risk, controls management, compliance, regulatory change, operational resilience to support embedding of Enterprise Risk Management framework across the organization.
  • Own and maintain the GRC business and data architecture, ensuring alignment with evolving organizational needs.
  • Responsible to architect, facilitate implementation and embed the various GRC modules/components on a single platform / eco-system to ensure cross linkage and usability of data attributes.
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of stakeholder business requirements, enterprise reference data standards and organizational context throughout project execution.
  • Assess business processes and framework changes to resolve business requirements; and deliver recommendations along with supporting documentation to enable business decisions.
  • Engage with business leaders and users to understand current state and articulate feasible solutions, through process change, tool implementation and configuration.
  • Work closely with all key collaborators (business, technology, vendors/service providers, management), lead discussions with business teams to understand and relay functional requirements to inhouse application support teams for effective implementation and enablement of GRC tool.
  • Steer the existing GRC design with evolving business needs in line with broader departmental initiatives.
  • Monitor delivery throughout the life of the project effort and assess outcomes to ensure completeness and sustainability.
  • Coordinate meetings and report/escalate matters as appropriate.
  • Manage program RAID log and escalate to management and relevant stakeholders on potential issues (i.e. under-delivery, missed deadlines and/or budget overrun) to ensure that those may be properly addressed as soon as possible
  • Develop a solid understanding of the GRC tool and recommend implementation approaches, taking into consideration individual department needs and overall organizational objectives.
  • Facilitate the adoption of the GRC tool post implementation by business stakeholders for generating process efficiencies and sustainability.
  • Closely work with SMBC and vendor technology teams for ensuring that the agreed upon design principles and rules of engagement are followed.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous experience coordinating and supporting end-to-end GRC technology change management programs > 7 years preferably in financial services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GRC process and data landscape, with exposure to enablement of risk frameworks such as risk management, compliance, and regulatory change, third party risk management, business continuity management, or operational resilience on a GRC platform.
  • Ability to handle fast paced, strong delivery, tight timelines/funding environments in the capacity of Business Architect/ Lead Business Analyst.
  • Experience aligning tool capabilities to organizational strategy while ensuring that new capabilities do not adversely affect existing ones.
  • Prior with business projects experience with significant technology development or interfacing requirements through life cycle of project.
  • Previous experience analyzing business impacts of technology transformations.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvements through technology and data-driven solutions.
  • Strong technical orientation, with an ability to understand complex technology concepts and explain them in an easily digestible format to business stakeholders, partners and senior management.
  • Self-starter, motivated and proficient in organizing and tracking progress on multiple tasks and projects with strong follow through and time management skills.
  • Strong and adaptable communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and proven track record in collaborative working style.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work across departments to influence change while managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with professional maturity and confidence in expressing points of view with senior management.


Experience, Knowledge Requirements:

  • 10 + years of specialized experience in Banking or Financial Services industry
  • 7-10 years of experience with Banking or Financial Services GRC, Regulatory Compliance, Governance, Legal, or related department, preferably with a foreign banking institution (FBO/IHC/BHC) doing business in the U.S.
  • Strategic technology / digital transformation experience with a top tier consulting firm preferred.

Education:

  • Required: BA / BS
  • Preferred: MA / MS / MBA
  • Masters degree is desired
