Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate III for NJMS- Pharmacology. This position is under the direction of the PI, conducts research addressing fundamental aspects of the central regulation of glucose and energy homeostasis. The focus is on the mechanisms underlying the ability of the brain to sense changes in extracellular glucose and how these mechanisms become dysfunctional during diabetes and obesity.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs patch-clamp recordings in brain slice preparations from rodents.
  • Performs stereotaxic surgery on rodents and other surgeries as directed.
  • Performs rodent behavioral studies.
  • Performs immunohistochemical analysis of brain tissue.
  • Learns and stays abreast of literature in the field of glucose sensing.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience,
  • OR a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.


Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be willing to work with rodents.
  • Must be willing and able to work some weekend hours, including monitoring rodents post-surgery or performing feeding manipulations.
  • Candidate must have expertise in performing electrophysiological recordings, rodent surgery (e.g., stereotactic brain microinjections, intracerebroventricular cannulation, osmotic minipump implantation) and basic biochemistry skills (PCR, western blot, immunohistochemistry).
  • Must be able to perform electrophysiological techniques.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong preference given to applicants with electrophysiology experience in brain slice preparations.
