Posting Summary
Rutgers School of Health Professions is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Department of Health Informatics.

The laboratory at the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics is searching for a highly motivated scientist with Master, PhD, Doctoral, or PostDoctoral as preferred scientist with training and interest in computer science or biomedical informatics to build and test analysis pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing data from cancer patients using Unix/Linux computing cluster.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Builds and tests analysis pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing data, using shell/python scripting on Amarel computing cluster.
  • Using these pipelines, downloads and analyzes clinical and Next Generation Sequencing data (for cancer patients) from public repositories (including dbGaP).
  • Develops and applies machine learning algorithms to associate patterns in the data with cancer progression and therapeutic response in cancer patients.
  • Participates in generating data for grant reporting.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Obtained degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Analytics or related field.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PhD student preferred.
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems and shell/python scripting is recommended.
  • Knowledge of shell/python scripting in Unix/Linux operating environment is recommended.
