CMBN is also committed to serving the academic and surrounding Newark communities through educational outreach, community service, and research internship programs that train undergraduate and high school students.
Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Research Project Assistant. The Research Project Assistant reports to the Principal Investigator in the Baker Laboratory, Center for Molecular Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN), and provides day-to-day research support.

This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:

  • Administering cognitive neuroimaging and stimulation techniques to human subjects
  • Managing and reporting the data of multiple projects
  • Managing databases and subject files
  • Screening and scheduling research subjects
  • Handling confidential and sensitive information regarding subject participation; and managing student workers in the lab
  • The Research Project Assistant regularly communicates key updates at lab meetings, assists the Principal Investigator with Institutional Review Board (IRB) Continuing Review applications, and in the preparation of other lab documents
  • Maintains proficiency in all policies, practices, and regulations, and keeps records and performs all work in accordance with laboratory practices and in accordance with all procedures, policies, and processes of the Laboratory, CMBN, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), and Rutgers University
  • Work is performed in a manner that furthers the mission of the Laboratory, CMBN, SASN, and RU-N
  • The position depends on adequate external funding

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field, and minimum of one year of research experience in human electrophysiological methods and research experience with both topical and atypical populations.
Equipment Utilized
  • Laboratory equipment for EEG acquisitions and knows or will learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Laboratory environment.
  • Must adhere to all policies and procedures for research labs and human subjects, including, but not limited to, Protection of Minors.
  • Training in and adherence to relevant safety procedures mandatory.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
