Rutgers School of Public Health is seeking a senior level tenured (Full) Professor in any area of public health. Qualified candidates should have a PhD, MD, or equivalent with extensive experience and community engagement in the field of public health with a focus on LGBTQ+ populations. Additional requirements include a strong record of scholarly achievement, sustained extramural research funding as Principal Investigator, experience in teaching and mentoring a new generation of public health researchers and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, anti-racism, and LGBTQ+ rights.

The successful candidate will serve as the Inaugural Perry N. Halkitis Endowed Chair for Advancing LGBTQ+ Public Health & Tenured Professor, School of Public Health as well as the Inaugural Director Rutgers Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health at Rutgers Health.

Under the leadership of Dean Perry N. Halkitis, the Rutgers School of Public Health (R-SPH) has earned widespread acclaim as a leading hub of excellence in the realm of sexual gender minority (SGM) health. During his tenure at Rutgers, Dean Halkitis has established the world's first Master of Public Health concentration in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) health, recruited faculty with complementary LGBTQ+ research programs, and launched the academic journal Annals of LGBTQ Public and Population Health with the aim of advancing the dissemination of research on health disparities and interventions. Rutgers School of Public Health faculty, students, and staff lead partnerships with critical LGBTQ+ researchers, activists, and community members to challenge structural racism and anti-LGBTQ+ policies in New Jersey and beyond.

The mission of the Rutgers School of Public Health is "To advance health and wellbeing and prevent disease throughout New Jersey, the United States, and the world, by preparing students as public health leaders, scholars, and practitioners; conducting public health research and scholarship; engaging collaboratively with communities and populations; and actively advocating for policies, programs, and services through the lens of equity and social justice."

The CEPH-accredited Rutgers School of Public Health offers multiple master and doctoral degrees, dual-degree, certificate, and articulated BA/BS-MPH degree programs across 4 departments. The Perry N. Halkitis Endowed Chair in LGBTQ+ Public Health has been established to ensure a lasting foundation for a science-based, human rights approach to LGBTQ+ health and well-being at Rutgers University. This endowed chair, among the university's highest honors, aims to attract the nation's most creative and pioneering LGBTQ+ leaders to Rutgers, ensuring an everlasting commitment to advancing the field.

Simultaneously, Rutgers Health is actively fostering the establishment of Rutgers Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Heath (R-LGBTQ+) as a strategic initiative at the Chancellor level. This Institute will integrate research, clinical practice, and policy efforts within Rutgers Health, stimulating the advancement of health and well-being of SGM/LGBTQ+ populations while strategically expanding this domain both financially and structurally. A working group led by Drs. Perry Halkitis and Gloria Bachman has undertaken initial work to define the institute informed by the following vision and mission:

Vision: A world in which all individuals, families and communities have collectively achieved equity and justice to live healthy and fulfilling lives free from bias, discrimination, and hate.

Mission: To engage in inter-professional research, scholarship, education, advocacy, and delivery of clinical and support services, through meaningful community engagement, and to improve the health and well-being of SGM individuals, families, and communities at Rutgers University, New Jersey, and beyond.

Establishing R-LGBTQ+ would provide the critical infrastructure needed to unite diverse initiatives across Rutgers Health that are already dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of SGM people and communities in NJ and beyond. R-LGBTQ+ will consolidate and build on the synergies among the clinical and service offerings of Rutgers Health, community-engaged research being undertaken by numerous investitive teams, and educational elements offered by the Schools within Rutgers Health. This integrated approach will significantly strengthen collaboration and training opportunities for learners, junior colleagues, and the community, an undertaking that has not been achieved before. Centralizing this effort in a more uniform and cohesive manner will empower faculty, researchers, and trainees to leverage the collective expertise of those involved at R-LGBTQ+ for myriad of opportunities, particularly in advancing research by securing funding at the local, state, and national levels. However, realizing this vision warrants restructuring and strategic investments. The following highlights from each of the three core pillars illustrate how R-LGBTQ+ can thrive over time, contributing significantly to the core missions of Rutgers Health.

We seek to recruit the inaugural Perry N. Halkitis Endowed Chair in LGBTQ+ Public Health. This Chair will serve as the Inaugural Director of R-LGBTQ+ and hold their primary faculty appointment in R-SPH with secondary appointments in one or more RBHS schools, as appropriate.
