The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Columbia World Projects (CWP) is a university-wide initiative that aims to forge closer and more useful connections between Columbia University's vast research capabilities and the needs of the world. The Center for Political Economy, housed at CWP, works to identify and advance the most promising and innovative post-2008 developments within economics, and to promote a new political economy with robust philosophical underpinnings, distinctive for our time, with an institutional, cross-disciplinary orientation connecting economics to, among other subjects, history, law, political science, sociology, public health, engineering, and data science. At the core of its work, the Center is developing "idea labs" to advance fresh thinking, shape research agendas, affect graduate training, and serve as intellectual and policy incubators across distinct themes in political economy.

Position Summary:

The Center for Political Economy at Columbia World Projects seeks a Student Administrative Worker (SAW) to support the day-to-day activities of the Center. Reporting to the Project Officer for the Center, the SAW will assist with the planning, management and implementation of the Center's workplans, activities and initiatives; support the work of its Idea Labs and postdoctoral research scholars/scientist; and assist with the coordination of the annual faculty and graduate student programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and coordination of Center events.
  • Compile data and tracking information for projects and events.
  • Assist with scheduling Center meetings, preparing agendas, and providing follow up.
  • Attend Center meetings, conferences, seminars, and events and take detailed notes.
  • Assist with writing, editing, and presentation of various documents and materials.
  • Assist with creating internal and external communications materials.
  • Assist with maintenance of Center's mailing lists and website.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or its equivalent is required. Minimum of two years related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience required. Some college preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Columbia student preferred.
  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint; Google Workspace; Outlook; and Mailchimp desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong initiative, organizational ability, and attention to detail.
  • Good research and documentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.

Columbia Global maintains a hybrid work environment that ensures that we preserve the important aspects of our unique in-person university campus culture that support meaningful collaboration and advancement of CG key initiatives. Colleagues will work onsite for three of five work days and two virtual days.
