Introduction to the job
ASML US, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, bring together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market, and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world's leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Chandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon.
Founded in 1984, ASML is the world's leading provider of lithography systems for the semiconductor industry, manufacturing complex machines that are critical to the production of integrated circuits or microchips. The mission of the Mechanical Development department is to design and develop the complex mechanics for these machines, which are some of the highest precision products ever produced in the world. This position is based on-site in Wilton, CT, which has both R&D and manufacturing operations. We design and produce multiple sub-system modules that are shipped to our headquarters in Veldhoven, The Netherlands, where they are integrated into the full lithography machine.
Role and responsibilities
ASML Wilton Development & Engineering is responsible for developing complex technology for the world's leading EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) and DUV (Deep Ultraviolet) lithography systems. These complex, cross-functional machines require concurrent, fast-paced development activity. To meet this need, ASML globally augments internal engineering teams with collaboration projects from dozens of external Co-Developer partner companies. The engineers from our Co-Developer partners become directly connected into the ASML systems and infrastructure to become an integral part of the development base.
As the Mechanical-Outsourcing Manager, you become a bridge between ASML's development teams and the outside Co-Developer partners. Your responsibilities will include personnel oversight (150+ Co-Developer Engineers), coordination with external Co-Developer management, and engagement with ASML Project teams looking to utilize design-outsource resources. This leadership position is key part of the Wilton MDEV Engineering Infrastructure and Outsourcing Group that reports into the Wilton MDEV Staff. Because of the wide range of projects involved, this role gives exposure across Business Lines and other ASML. This is an opportunity for a leader to demonstrate a mix of technical-development experience, organization skills, people-leadership abilities, and business acumen.
The main focus of this role is to enable successful project collaborations by connecting Co-Developer engineering skills to Project needs. This position requires a combination of people- management skills, business skills, ability to establish knowledge of ASML's development process, and ability to assess a large range of technical projects:
Education and experience
Minimum of a Bachelors degree (Masters degree preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering, math, or science degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience with complex or precision mechanical design.
Minimum of 3 years of direct management, project management, or similar leadership experience in a technical field.
The hired candidate must have ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both written and oral.
We are seeking an individual with a strong background in leading mechanical design and engineering teams, including taking responsibility of the full "art to part" development cycle. A background in mechanical design of mechatronics, precision design, or complex optical systems is desirable, as well as good complex mechanical system intuition.
