Job Summary

Sam Schwartz is seeking a Director of Traffic Engineering to lead our traffic engineering services and team within the NJ and PA region. The ideal candidate must possess a deep understanding of local and State agency processes, demonstrated experience managing projects for both the private and public sectors, and the ability to provide technical oversight and deliver high-quality projects on time and on budget. The Traffic Engineering department delivers a wide range of projects including traffic impact studies, traffic simulation and modeling, transportation planning, corridor and neighborhood studies, airport landside planning and engineering, data analytics, transportation management plans, traffic signal design, alternative analyses, planning for connected and autonomous vehicles, and traffic analyses to support master plans and large-scale highway projects.

The Director of Traffic Engineering will be responsible for the success and growth of services within the region. This includes supervising department staff and managing their utilization, providing project oversight and client management, winning new work, and coordinating with other practice areas and office locations. Furthermore, the Director is responsible for the profitability of their department, strategic planning for the local practice area as well as contributing to the firmwide vision, business development, monitoring and guiding career paths for their staff, and the development of and adherence to revenue goals and department budgets.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years' experience, including 5+ years' experience locally

  • PA and/or NJ PE license required; PTOE certification preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Traffic/Transportation Engineering

  • Staff management and leadership experience

  • Project management experience

  • Experience preparing multi-modal transportation analysis and studies for PennDOT, NJDOT, turnpike and toll authorities, transit agencies, and/or county and municipal clients in PA and/or NJ.

  • Experience leading and preparing proposals for private and public sector clients

  • Experience with traffic analysis software including Synchro/SimTraffic and VISSIM

  • Demonstrated ability to bring creativity and efficiency to problem solving

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Business development and client management experience

Sam Schwartz is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $146,600- $215,900 annually for this position and local market.
