Job Description:

The RISE (Returning & Incarcerated Student Education) department at Raritan Valley Community College is currently accepting applications for an Inventory-Control Specialist.

The primary responsibility of this position will be the maintenance and coordination of the program's textbooks and other major resources, under the direction of the RISE Senior Manager of Financial Aid & Enrollment. Although much of the job will center around overseeing textbooks, this position also will be responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of microscopes, science lab materials, art supplies, calculators, DVDs, and other college assets used in RISE courses.

Initially, the staff member will handle bar-coding and inventorying the thousands of books in the RISE library, using an inventory-control system acquired by the college. Although a large task at the outset, taking stock of our textbooks will help the program to more responsibly manage one of the costliest assets in our prison-education program. Once the initial book-tagging process is completed, the staff member will order, count, and pack books for classes each semester and will similarly retrieve and re-inventory the assets when classes end. He or she will be responsible for providing data regarding asset losses every term.

To determine which resources need to be ordered, the Inventory-Control specialist will work closely with the RISE Academic Coordinator and faculty/staff in various disciplines to determine the RISE program's textbook and classroom supply needs. He or she also will be responsible for submitting all new materials to the NJ Department of Corrections Office of Educational Services for approval.

This position is dependent upon successful completion of a background check and willingness to travel to and work inside the prisons around the state of New Jersey.

In addition to overseeing our textbooks and other assets, this staff member will aid in other RISE office duties, as time permits.

Additional Essential Duties:

Verifying student information such as identity and incarceration history when required to facilitate application completion.

Processing admissions and enrollment information and preparing materials for admitted students.

Maintaining the RISE database of student prison locations and unique prison identifier and college G numbers.

Helping to prepare materials and maintain records related to financial aid and required supporting documentation.

Reconciling credit card purchases.

Aiding in assorted office tasks, such as completing work orders, mailing packages, ordering office supplies, copying, scanning, filing, and recording student data in Banner enrollment system and Excel.

Requirements:

Associate's degree or higher required.

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an office environment.

Demonstrate judgment and discretion necessary to work with a vulnerable student population and to adhere to FERPA student privacy, especially when dealing with sensitive student information.

Excellent organization abilities, including ability to synthesize and track large volumes of information.

Experience working with Microsoft Excel and other Office products, Google Drive.

Must maintain full DOC clearance.

Strong communication skills (oral and written) and flexibility.

Additional Information:

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking, and climbing.

Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds for a distance of up to 500 feet.

Requires handling equipment weighing up to 20 pounds while pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, and reaching while lifting.

Application Instructions:

As a New Jersey First Act Employer, new employees must establish a primary residence in New Jersey within one year unless an exemption applies.

RVCC's starting salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience. We also offer an attractive benefits package.
