Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College is seeking applicants for a Development Associate with the RVCC Foundation. The Development Associate position supports the RVCC Foundation's mission by growing philanthropic support from corporations and private foundations whose interests and giving priorities align with those of the College. This person will join a small but active team and will report to the Executive Director of the RVCC Foundation.

Essential Duties:

Funds Development: 70%

  • The Development Associate will work to maintain our current grant support from a range of companies and private foundations who already donate to RVCC. Part of this responsibility includes managing submission deadlines for existing grants, helping craft renewal proposals to retain current funding, and working on stewardship reports that provide progress on the impact of our current funding. As such, this Development Associate role requires strong writing and editing skills, along with exemplary organizational strengths and the ability to manage a dynamic proposal submission calendar.
  • In addition to caring for our existing funding sources, this position is also responsible for identifying new sources of funding from corporations and private foundations that have yet to engage with RVCC, but whose interests align with our key programs and initiatives. Once the incumbent identifies viable prospects through prospect research, they will develop specific solicitation strategies for relevant prospects. Basic research skills are a must, as is the ability to synthesize a range of information and donor requirements for proposal submissions. This position will work with both RVCC Foundation colleagues and others program leaders across the College (as needed) and will be responsible for the proposal development process from concept to actual submissions on behalf of RVCC. Appropriately, this position requires a talent for prospect research, as well as strong collaborative skills, and the aforementioned writing and editing strengths.
  • As the Development Associate grows into the job, they may also take on the management of a portfolio of relationships with selected corporate and private foundation donors, to steward and further cultivate the interests of those selected donors.

Develops and Grows Internal College Relationships with Students, Faculty, Staff as well as RVCC Foundation Team Members: 20%

  • Engages with relevant faculty to collaborate on grantmaking and proposal submissions.
  • Takes lead with faculty on submitting relevant funding proposals.
  • Supports prepping faculty and staff for any donor meetings and visits.
  • Supports RVCC Foundation team members and assists with RVCC Foundation events, like RVCC Giving Day, the annual RVCC Foundation Golf Classic, the annual RVCC Foundation Scholarship reception, as well as various RVCC Alumni Association events on campus.
  • Embraces the role of being an RVCC Foundation team member and seeks to grow positive perceptions of the RVCC Foundation and its work through personal ambassadorship and interpersonal skills.

Operations: 10%

  • Prepares for and participates in quarterly RVCC Foundation Board of Directors and committee meetings, as needed.
  • Keeps accurate records and preserves activity with donors and prospects in RVCC Foundation's Raiser's Edge database.

  • Knowledge of prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Knowledge of and strong skills in Raiser's Edge and strategic database segmentation.
  • Familiarity with AwardSpring or similar scholarship administration platform.
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, multi-task, be flexible, and manage the completion of multiple projects with positive attitude and team orientation.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing duties and projects, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential donor/constituency information with sensitivity and integrity.
  • Extensive knowledge of budget processing and ability to pay attention to detail and maintain accurate records.
