The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of CUIMC Analytics Development Team, the Senior Analytics Developer develops and maintains the tools used for advancing the mission of Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

This position will design and create data structures, reports, dashboards, and related data extracts from various institutional data sources, including accounting, human resources, clinical information, and medical practice management EHR systems, and others. This individual must be proficient in SQL coding, the use of enterprise business intelligence tools, related data models, and best practices for data warehousing.

In addition to development work, this position requires the individual to review analytic requests, provide status updates, set user expectations, and generally demonstrate the ability to explain technical solutions to others. This individual must be team oriented and possess strong customer service, communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills

Responsibilities

Proficiently uses MS SQL Server for queries and designing tables - 40%

Builds and maintains client facing business intelligence solutions using tools, such as Power BI, Cognos, Excel, Epic's proprietary suite of tools, and other applications - 30%

Partners with clients to understand analytic needs, advise on optimal solutions, and help business analysts translate the operational definitions into written specifications - 10%

Manages multiple projects simultaneously keeping clients and team members updated on progress - 5%

Maintains knowledge of internal and industry-wide policies, standards, and best practices, including HIPAA, IRB, and data governance policies and procedures to ensure all deliverables meet those standards - 5%

Seeks out additional training to improve skills in the team's technologies, to learn new technologies, and to improve soft skills for better client and team relations - 5%

Other duties as assigned - 5%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, information systems, or similar technical discipline, OR a bachelor's degree in an unrelated discipline and four years of related experience.
  • Epic clinical or revenue cycle certification (or certification within 6 months of employment)
  • Proficiency in relational database design and SQL.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with administrative and/or operational data and reporting
  • Experience with Power BI, Cognos, and/or other Business Intelligence tools
  • Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on communication, detail, and follow-up
  • Experience in academic or hospital environments
  • Experience with scripting languages for data analysis, such as R or python
