Mativ is actively looking for an innovative and hardworking individual to join our growingR&Dteam. The Junior Scientist will work closely with our Research and Development, and Engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have theattitude,initiative, and excellent interpersonal skills to support Mativ's collaborative, high-achievement culture.
responsibilities:
  • The principal responsibility is to prepare and test custom designed samples and developmental products in accordance with customer and/or market requirements.
  • Prepare standard and custom designed product samples, obtaining raw materials from inventory, i.e. wet adhesives, release liners, solvents, special adhesives, etc. and send samples of laboratory prepared potential new products to customers.
  • Perform standard and specialized tests, i.e. testing for peel adhesion, adhesive shear strength, tack, etc. on Scapa and competitive materials. Interpret test results and makes recommendations to supervisor and R&D team members.
  • Lead/support team efforts toward new process and product validation projects, i.e. cost reductions, forced raw material changes, etc.
  • Work in a manner compliant with relevant design control, project planning, and reporting procedures and documentation.
  • Prepare pilot or production trial documentation, assist Engineering Team in trial execution and subsequent testing of trial materials.
  • Implements quality and statistical tools as part of the new product development or product validation processes.
  • Work with suppliers of raw materials to qualify their submissions for potential use in existing or new products.
  • Assist engineering staff with process development as new products are scaled up to manufacturing or legacy products are improved upon.
  • Coordinate with other departments as necessary (operations, quality assurance, procurement, etc.)
  • Train new lab personnel on lab procedures and test methods
  • Responsible for set up and operation of various pieces of testing equipment.


qualifications:
Required
  • The ideal applicant will have the confidence to work in a manufacturing environment, with internal clients who are dedicated professionals.
  • Associate Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or minimum of 8 years of experience in product development field
  • Project management skills, ability to deliver to schedule
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to work in a dynamic and fluid production environment
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Methodical, rigorous, persistent
  • Highly organized, diligent, structured.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
Office and lab environment. Typical work week is 40 hours. This position is based at the Windsor, CT Facility.
