Job Summary

Sam Schwartz is seeking a Senior Engineer/Planner for our New York City office to help lead a dynamic interdisciplinary team of technical staff consisting of traffic engineers, transportation planners, urban designers, and data scientists. Services to be provided include designing and providing oversight of various multi-modal ground transportation operations at airports and other transportation facilities, performing quantitative analysis of airport landside traffic behavior, and serving as an extension of agency staff during intensive and sustained construction activities.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities

The selected individual will perform various tasks, such as:

  • Leading a team to develop creative solutions to transportation challenges, including airport landside transportation in particular
  • Collaborating with and presenting to agency officials, including non-engineering/planning stakeholders
  • Prioritizing, defining, and delegating client requests to internal and various external consultant teams
  • Understanding and interpreting data analytics to make informed decisions, develop recommendations, and propose solutions
  • Staying up to date on the latest trends in transportation technology and mobility services
  • Identifying/foreseeing potential project construction delays and work opportunities, and developing plans to minimize impact on construction activities

Skills and Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to anticipate and represent client needs and interests
  • Ability to interpret/synthesize data of disparate sources into a cohesive singular perspective
  • Experience managing transportation projects, including management of staff, budgets, and clients
  • Experience with using standard transportation technical manuals and procedures including the MUTCD, AASHTO, HCM, CEQR Technical Manual
  • Familiarity with Synchro, VISSIM, and HCS with knowledge about program inputs, outputs, and limitations
  • Experience with elements of roadway design, including roadway alignment, markings, signing, and signals
  • Flexibility to work at the project site and during non-standard business hours occasionally

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • At least 7 years of experience in the transportation engineering/planning field
  • Degree in civil or transportation engineering, urban planning, or related field
  • PE and/or AICP certification strongly preferred
  • Valid United States driver's license strongly preferred
  • Experience working with public agencies on large-scale transportation infrastructure projects
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

This position is for Sam Schwartz's New York City office; however, candidate would have the flexibility to work from Sam Schwartz's New Jersey office as well.


Additional Information

Sam Schwartz is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $87,800 - $146,600 annually for this position and local market.
