The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Office of Academic and Community Partnership (OACP) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a dedicated individual to join their team as the Community Affairs Coordinator. OACP serves as the central office for advancing the medical center's research, education, clinical care and community service mission by fostering community collaborative partnerships and strengthening bidirectional relationships with our neighbors, community-based organizations, faith-based leaders and city and state stakeholders. The coordinator will be an integral part of the office team contributing to supporting and enhancing community and academic partnerships, collaborating with CUIMC schools, departments, faculty and staff and community-based organizations, partners, and stakeholders to facilitate community initiatives and programs with the goal of improving health and well-being of the surrounding community.

Reporting to the Vice President for Community Affairs and Partnership Engagement, the Community Affairs Coordinator will be the lead contact for community engagement, representing OACP in community meetings, planning sessions and outreach events and activities. The candidate will work in close collaboration with internal CUIMC schools, departments and external community partners to oversee the successful implementation of collaborative community programs such as - Summer Youth Employment, Medical Center Neighborhood Fund, America Reads, CUIMC Volunteer Initiative, Community Research Forums, Project Medical Education and other academic and community engagement initiatives and service programs.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in community meetings and engage with community partners, city and state stakeholders to foster relationship building and collaborations.
  • Work with community partners to assess service needs and connections to internal resources and partnership opportunities.
  • Develop, manage and promote community facing volunteer initiatives.
  • Work with community partners to recruit, training and placement of local SYEP youths.
  • Work with internal partners to meet university policies and procedures, compliance requirements to successfully implement community youth programs and initiatives such SYEP, America Reads, and other student mentoring programs.
  • Work with internal partners (NYP, NYSPI) to oversee volunteer service programs, recruitment of community organizations and employee volunteers to operationalize the MCNF.
  • Plan and execute MCNF awards ceremony and provide direct support to the OACP team in the execution of events, health fairs and community forums.
  • Design marketing and outreach materials to promote community programs, special events and research education and dissemination activities.
  • Work closely with CUIMC communications and marketing team to develop and execute strategic promotional plans for community facing programs and research dissemination activities.
  • Work with various CUIMC schools and departments to coordinate the local outreach efforts to promote Pipeline and pathways programs with the goal of increasing participation/representation of local residents.
  • Support research faculty in their efforts to establish community partnerships, outreach and engagement activities.
  • Work in close collaboration with community stakeholders and key external partners to secure letters of support and approvals for CUIMC projects, research efforts, clinical care and community health initiatives.
  • Report, prepare and deliver presentations to update on office programs and events.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of the office website and social media platforms activities.
  • Represent CUIMC in key community meetings, networking events and activities;
  • Assists and support in all community-facing communications.
  • Handles email and phone inquiries and maintains updated mailing lists and contacts.
  • Performs other operational duties in line with overall office goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, with proven community engagement and programing and evaluation experience preferred, plus three years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, manage, implement, monitor and evaluate programs and initiatives from conception to completion.
  • The candidate must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed to support the programing, community relations building goals of the office. In addition, the candidate must be able to travel as needed to attend conferences and other meetings.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public relations, communications, and diplomatic skills are essential.
  • Must a self-starter and able to work independently while supporting the efforts of the OACP team.
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft 365 including all its programs and apps.
  • Possess the ability to handle multiple tasks, projects and events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Northern Manhattan and South Bronx communities and bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
