Position Summary
The Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health seeks an Academic Program Coordinator to support the Academic Program. The Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health is a vibrant department of faculty from a variety of professional backgrounds (public health, law, sociology, psychology, medicine, social work, demography) whose work focuses on domestic and global issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights, forced migration, child and adolescent health, environmental justice, human rights, and complex health systems. This position reports to the Director of Academic Programs.
Responsibilities
Applied Practice Experience (practicum) Administration 25%
Student advising regarding required MPH Applied Practice Experience (APEx), student communication and outreach, APEx Scope of Work approvals including verification that meets degree requirements and feedback to students on adjustments, advising students whether project requires IRB for human subjects research, flight stipend distribution for eligible students, liaise with Mailman Office of Field Practice, tracking student APEx Completion Forms, and coordinating department assessment of student APEx completion, including the departmental Applied Practice Experience (APEx) symposium.
Event Planning 25%
Coordination of planning and organizing departmental student events, including communication about events, advertising, room reservations or Zoom set-up, ordering food and supplies, receiving deliveries, set-up, clean-up, etc.
Admissions 10%
Support department Admissions process for reviewing applications, including faculty reader assignments and preparing materials for department Admissions Committee meeting, and for recruiting and yielding prospective and admitted students.
Administration 20%
Support department administration of academic program, including record-keeping of program data and student progress, student database management, student registration, degree auditing, course listings and support CourseWorks/Canvas platforms, and scheduling, agendas, and notes for committees and meetings.
Communication 15%
Facilitate academic program communication which includes maintaining department student listservs, sharing available jobs with students via email, partnering with department Communications Officer to promote academic programs and students via online platforms, and managing job opportunities email list for department alumni.
Other Related Duties-5%
Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned.
