The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, School of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. Preference will be given to candidates at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates with expertise in the following area are highly encouraged to apply:

Data Science Enabled Engineering: Development of data-science (DS) methods and data-driven algorithms with applications to Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI)- and Machine Learning (ML)-based Engineering Design and Optimization, Integrated Computational Manufacturing and Material Engineering (ICME). The objective is to provide a bridge between classic engineering techniques and emerging data-driven engineering. The position requires demonstrated expertise in developing DS/AI/ML algorithms that integrate realistic models and/or measurements of physical phenomena, and/or relate to classical techniques such as advanced controls and constitutive modeling for the finite element method.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; develop a nationally recognized and externally funded scholarly research program; and maintain synergy with one or more department strengths in Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics and Mechatronics, Energy, Thermal Materials Processing, Aeronautics, and Packaging Engineering. The 3,000 square foot state-of-the-art New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Institute offers excellent opportunities for research and teaching. The candidate must hold an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.

Our department has more than 40 full-time faculty with more than 850 undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Packaging Engineering and more than 170 graduate students. The MAE Department is one of the seven academic units of the School of Engineering, is located in Rutgers-New Brunswick, a culturally and academically diverse environment with more than 4,000 full-time and part-time faculty, 8,500 graduate students, and 37,000 undergraduate students.
