The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Division of General Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Worker to contribute to several NIH-funded studies, notably the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) and other population-based studies within the division.

The Research Worker will engage with study participants via telephone communication and in-person examinations at the Division's clinical research sites. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research interviewing by directly interacting with participants.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for contact and retention of study participants.
  • Obtain informed consent.
  • Schedule examinations for study participants.
  • Conduct telephone and in-person interviews using structured questionnaires.
  • Verify the completeness of data within questionnaires.
  • Monitor completed and incomplete data forms.
  • Organize and maintain records pertaining to interviews, examinations, schedules, and related activities.
  • Assist participants during examinations, including escorting them to designated locations.
  • Conduct home visits as needed to perform research examinations and collect research data.
  • Perform various research-related tasks such as obtaining consent, conducting anthropometric measurements and interviews, and collecting research data including blood pressure, spirometry, etc.
  • Generate reports and maintain accurate research records.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social science or related area and at least three years of related experience or Master's degree and at least one year of experience
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish (speaking and reading).
  • Previous experience in clinical research, particularly in conducting research interviews.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, responsibility, and excellent interpersonal and telephone communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in recruitment, retention, and follow-up of the MESA cohort.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including word processing software and spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology.

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program
    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
