Overview

This is a full-time clinical position that provides 50% of position coded hours to be protected time, whereby supporting the Fairfield University Bridgeport Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia (FUBHSONA) program. Additonal hours outside the coded position (overtime hours) is dedicated to clinical patient care. This position requires a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) who is qualified by graduate, degree, education and experience. The function of this position is to support the daily operations of Bridgeport Hospital as well as the education and training of student nurse anesthetist (SRNAs). Non-clinical faculty support include and not limited to: direct teaching, faculty-directed student scholarly activities, review of care plans, student evaluation and feedback, student counseling, preparation for site visits, participation in simulation training, and panning for students in remediation.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Assist is ensuring compliance with the COA's standards and guidelines.
  • 2. Assist in coordinating activities and committees to ensure stated program goals are achieved.
  • 3. Involved with the interview and selection of students as needed.
  • 4. Assists in coordination of the clinical program, included but not limited to scheduling SRNAs accordingly.
  • 5. Communicates with clinical rotation sites for evaluation of students.
  • 6. Reviews student care plans and aids in performing clinical and didactic evaluations of the students.
  • 7. Acts a s professional role model for all nurse anesthesia students.
  • 8. Promotes staff and preceptor development. Acts as a liaison between the staff and the SONA.
  • 9. Supports PD and APD with planning and acting for students in a remediation process.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

The candidate must be must be a graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Counsel on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). A Doctoral of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP), or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Must become a credentialed CRNA at Bridgeport Hospital. Experience as a CRNA in a clinical role for a minimum of 2 years, 3 years preferred. Preceptor and lecturing experience is required. Leadership experience of at least 2 years is preferred.

LICENSURE

The candidate must be currently certified by the National Board Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthesia (NBCRNA). A current and unencumbered license of privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Registered Nurse Anesthetist (APRN) in the state of CT is required. Current and active membership in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist (AANA)is also a requirement.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Creativity, flexibility, adaptability, conflict resolution abilities are all required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures and/or background is required. Strong computer literacy and experience with use of Outlook, Power Point, and Excel is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Flexibility with clinical scheduling and protected faculty time schedule is required. Meeting operational demands and keeping the patients center to everything we do is a priority. Schedule requests and approvals will be reviewed and approved by reporting manager.


Additional Information

DNAP/DNP required, ACLS, BLS, current CT APRN and RN license, CRNA certification.
