Posting Summary
The Assistant Dean of the Newark and New Brunswick campuses of the Entry to Baccalaureate Practice Division of the Rutgers School of Nursing (RSON) is responsible for ensuring the overall academic quality and operational efficiency of the BSN programs offered on the Newark and New Brunswick campuses including the Traditional Newark, Traditional New Brunswick, and Second Degree BSN programs, Entry into Practice Division. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for creating and maintaining a student-centered learning environment and a clinical education culture of professionalism, teamwork, inclusiveness, and respect among students, faculty, clinical instructors, and staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities pertain to the Traditional BSN and Second- Degree BSN Programs, Newark and New Brunswick Campuses

Ensuring Academic Quality

  • In collaboration with the faculty, ensures that curriculum and learning outcomes are articulated and meet accreditation standards for student success.
  • In collaboration with Associate Dean and Directors ensures that national and state accreditation standards are met within all divisional programs.
  • Reviews student evaluation of course and faculty, program outcomes, exit surveys, exit exam results, and NCLEX pass rates and makes data driven recommendations for change.
  • Collaborates with faculty, RSON administration, and staff to develop, revise, and implement strategic plans and assure ongoing quality improvement and integrity of the Baccalaureate Division and its programs.

Faculty Oversight and Support

  • Provides Associate Dean with feedback for annual review of each faculty and staff member in the unit.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Baccalaureate Academic & Clinical Administration, oversees PTLs, adjuncts, clinical instructors, and preceptors to provide them with feedback in terms of teaching style for professional growth.
  • Supervises, mentors, and advises Program Directors in the conduction of their directorial responsibilities.
  • Ensures that equitable faculty workload assignments are transparent, planned, and distributed according to established timelines.
  • Serves as a liaison between RSON and commercial, technology-based student support programs to ensure adequate utilization and integration of all products and services by faculty.
  • Monitors and supports faculty to address academic, clinical, classroom, and virtual student concerns.
  • Mentors, advises, and assists Division faculty to execute their educational duties.
Student Oversight and Support

  • Promotes equity of expectations and opportunities for students across didactic and clinical experiences.
  • Ensures that each student admitted has the opportunity for a quality education with appropriate support from faculty, preceptors, and clinical instructors.
  • Collaborates with Program Directors in the oversight of student academic and clinical experiences.
  • Serves as a liaison between RSON and commercial, technology-based student support programs to ensure adequate utilization and integration of all products and services by students.
  • Oversees written and electronic notification of students regarding policy changes and challenges in meeting academic program requirements and progression standards.
Communication and Support

  • Facilitates open communication with faculty across and between programs and campuses and encourages Division faculty and student participation in RSON activities.
  • Treats all students, staff, and faculty with civility and respect, maintaining a just and caring educational community.
  • Maintains an appropriate, periodic presence on both Newark and New Brunswick campuses.

Operational Coordination/Scheduling

  • Coordinates with other departments within Rutgers and other schools to assure that appropriate prerequisites are available to accommodate nursing student needs.
  • Provides supervision and support to Program Administrative Support Personnel
  • Coordinates full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty needs for all scheduled courses by monitoring enrollment and tracking out of cycle students.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Student Services to facilitate student registration, student life, student support, and related student issues.
  • In collaboration with the Directors, Baccalaureate Academic, and Clinical Administration, identifies appropriate clinical sites and clinical placements for all nursing students.
  • Prepares course schedules according to established deadlines for the targeted campus programs in collaboration with the Director, Baccalaureate Academic & Clinical Administration.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean and professional staff to prepare faculty assignments.
  • Reviews student transcripts and notifies students of unsatisfactory academic performance (warnings, probation, dismissals).
  • Coordinates with the Registrar, Admissions, Professional Advisors, and Pathway programs to ensure for coordinated and efficient admissions, student tracking, and registration processes.

Minimum Education and Experience
* Doctoral degree (PhD or DNP) required.
* Prior experience in academic administration / leadership
* Minimum of 3 years academic nursing teaching experience
