Position Overview

Diligent is seeking a qualified lawyer with 8-12 years of employment law experience for an in-house Employment Counsel - Assistant General Counsel position based in New York City or London to provide counsel to our Chief Legal and Administrative Officer, our Human Resources team and business leaders. The ideal candidate will have broad and deep employment law experience as in-house counsel for companies with multistate and global reach. In this role, you will provide global counsel and service to our HR team, business leaders, and internal stakeholders, draft various employment-related documents, and support other employment-law related matters, including employment and HR related litigation, claims, and initiatives. This role is based in either New York City or London and reports to the Chief Legal and Administrative Officer (CLCAO) and is a member of a highly collaborative global Legal team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and counsel on employment related matters, such as employee relations, wageand hour compliance, employee benefits, employment agreements, workplace policies, leavesof absence and disability accommodation.
  • Day-to-day responsibility for labor and employment matters
  • Draft and negotiate labor and employment-related documents (employment agreements,workplace policies, etc.) and legal correspondence.
  • Support Human Resources team with respect to performance management, discipline, termination and other employee actions such as leaves of absence, and disability accommodation matters.
  • Handle labor and employment due diligence and other aspects of M&A and other strategic transactions.
  • Conduct or advise others on the conduct of workplace investigations as needed.
  • Drive and maintain the company's labor and employment-related compliance policies and programs in coordination with CLCAO, CHRO and Human Resources team, including designing and implementing related trainings. Perform job duties consistent with safety, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor and employment related laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Identify and assess legal risks and opportunities and advise accordingly.
  • Manage employment-related litigation and potential or threatened disputes in partnership withDiligent's CLCAO and Legal team.
  • Work closely with global specialized outside counsel to manage risk and ensure that internal partners receive effective, business-focused employment / labor support across global locations.
  • Provide a creative, proactive and consultative approach to solving problems that address business needs while appropriately managing risk.
  • Independently, efficiently, and quickly handle legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex.
  • Familiarity with partnerships, benefits, and equity-related programs a plus.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • A law degree from an accredited US or UK university required.
  • Experience in working on global employment matters including but not limited to US, EMEA, LATAM, and APAC employment matters.
  • 8-12+ years of substantive employment law experience with a combination of law firm training and prior in-house experience.
  • Excellent negotiating skills, legal drafting skills, judgment, and discretion.
  • Outstanding ability to balance business objectives, legal risk,legal considerations, and global nuances while also helping Diligent drive people and culture goals.
  • Some transactional experience preferred.
  • Experience with global businesses / international matters.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong command of the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Great at multi-tasking with a sense of urgency while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment with a "can do" mentality.
  • Must be an effective team player who is collaborative and works in tandem with colleagues.
  • Consultative and proactive with good business sense with unquestionable ethics and integrity.
  • Able to "own" and manage projects from beginning to end with a sense of follow through.
  • Exceptionally detail oriented and organized.

FLSA Status: Exempt

New York pay range
$200,000$250,000 USD
