Job Description:

The Space & Power Management Group (SPM) is the power systems division of Microchip Corporation and a leading designer, manufacturer marketer of relays, and contactors in Power Management. We have an opening at our Garden Grove, California facility for an Engineer - I Product/Test to work on testing and design verification for our line of mechanical relay products, our primary market We place great emphasis on validated solutions that work right the first time.

The Engineer I - Product/Test position supports design, design review, prototyping, specification review, material verification and validation and qualification testing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ability to creatively utilize existing resources to facilitate collection, presentation, and evaluation of data required to verify conformance to key design parameters and identification of potential discrepancies in electrical and mechanical performance of electro-mechanical devices.
  • Perform root cause analysis, diagnostics data mining, and implement corrective actions associated with nonconforming conditions of supplier parts. Where appropriate, disposition parts in collaboration with engineering and prescribe appropriate rework considering product risk, safety, and efficacy.
  • Ability to quickly learn and familiarize with and utilize Agile and AX012 systems to create or Modify DWGS, BOMS, and routes will be required
  • Review process documents, engineering drawings, and product specifications and propose improvements to reliability, performance, and cost as requested by the Eng. Manager.
  • Investigate manufacturing issues and tooling discrepancies, propose solutions and work with the machinist and or tool makers in fabrication or modifications of new tooling. Including design of jigs, fixtures, work platforms, various hand tools, specialized tools as required and used for small component fabrication.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of metal alloys and their properties and grades of OFC, brass, gold, silver, bronze, cadmium, low carbon, austenitic, ferritic, duplex, and martensitic steels.
  • Solid knowledge of Excel is a must, working knowledge of AutoCAD, dynamic simulation programs such as ProE-solid works or ANSYS simulation is a big plus.
  • Requires minimal supervision only to perform duties. Initiative and independent work execution is required.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Must have 0-3 years of experience and a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or materials engineering.
  • Proficiency, background, knowledge and 1-3 years of experience with electrical or electromechanical devices design is a plus.
  • Strong electro-mechanical process background, good understanding of analog circuits, or mechanical design, and experience with fabrication of small components manufacturing is highly desired.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in California, is $66,560-$128,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
