Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director of Media Relations for Ambulatory & Regional Hospitals.
For this role, NYULH is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and collaborative individual to serve as our inaugural Ambulatory & Regional Hospital Media Relations (Director) within the Communications & Marketing (C&M) department. The successful applicant will be based in Brooklyn or Long Island and will lead a team focused on successfully working with the news media and internal communications partners to effectively promote the exceptional patient care, research, and education that NYULH offers at its hospitals in Brooklyn and Long Island as well as at over 320 ambulatory care centers across the New York Metropolitan region and in Florida. This position also includes supporting the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine.
Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Director of Media Relations, the Director of Media Relations for Ambulatory and Regional Hospitals in this position will oversee media relations for all of NYU Langone's ambulatory locations as well as NYU Langone hospitals in Brooklyn and Long Island. This person must develop a coordinated strategy to effectively share these impactful stories, utilizing local community publications and national media alike, and closely track success through media monitoring. This position will coordinate closely with Content Strategy & Development COE and Enterprise Communications COE to ensure opportunities to amplify these stories are maximized through social media, NYULH's news website, internal communications, and more. They will also oversee an effective media pitching strategy, leveraging and helping effectively manage agency support, and respond to media inquiries on a broad variety of topics. This position is based at an NYU Langone Hospital in either Brooklyn or Long Island but will oversee staff in Brooklyn as well as Nassau and Suffolk counties.
This position will be responsible for all aspects of issues management across these locations, effectively elevating matters in a timely way and coordinating closely with the Senior Director and other leadership to develop strategies, messaging, and appropriate outreach and response as matters arise, including on nights and weekends as necessary. The person in this position will also be required to travel with some regularity across Long Island, Brooklyn and occasionally Manhattan.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a 8+ years of public and media relations experience, including proactively pitching media and issues management
2+ years of management experience building and leading teams
Experience working with local and regional news outlets; established relationships with key local New York and regional news sources
Strong working knowledge of promoting hospital and ambulatory programs
Excellent writer, editor, and verbal communicator; strong medical writing experience
Experience executing high profile public and media relations programs, both proactive and reactive
Well-versed in providing coaching and direct support to hospital and ambulatory leadership regarding public relations strategies and working with the press
Experience with building and managing press and media relationships
Established track record of working closely with and effectively communicating to executive leadership
Excellent understanding of media relations and the media landscape in the US, with deep knowledge of the local New York and regional geographic contexts
Comfortable with digital content channels, including but not limited to social media
Exceptional leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to influence, teach, inspire, motivate, and collaborate effectively
Strong PPT or Keynote user; good working knowledge of online collaboration tools
Ability to make decisions quickly within high pressure situations and react quickly and appropriately to unexpected media coverage
Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally
Proven ability to work effectively in a highly-matrixed environment
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in ambulatory and/or regional hospital setting
Bilingualism is an asset (Spanish/English)

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $138,098.48 - $230,164.48 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
