Posting Summary | The Department of Art & Design at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University,New Brunswick, New Jersey invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Design at the level of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024. The interdisciplinary department fosters and integrates a full and dynamic range of studio art and design practices and seeks an individual who pursues studio practice in design grounded in scientific, aesthetic, political or social research, informed by critical perspectives in contemporary art and design. Leveraging its geographic placement between New York City and Philadelphia, the Department of Art & Design is committed to supporting inclusivity, difference, equity, and excellence in a vibrant pedagogical and artistic community situated in one of the country's most diverse research universities. Minimum Education and Experience | Candidates should have a robust, creative, intellectually and critically engaged design practice as evidenced by recognition that may include publications, commissions, exhibitions, biennial participations, awards and/or collaborative projects. Overview | Housed in one of the leading public research universities on the East Coast, the Department of Art & Design is home to approximately 400 students, Art & Design offers 5-degree programs, and BFA undergraduate concentrations in Sculpture, Printmaking, Painting, Drawing, Media, Design, Photography, and Interdisciplinary Practice. The department recently launched an MFA in Design program focused on interdisciplinary studio practice and research driven design. The department's historical grounding in innovation, interdisciplinary inquiry, and critical reflection was shaped by its key involvement in the Fluxus movement, and later in the initiation of the first nondisciplinary MFA program in the country. The department is also home to Rutgers Print Collaborative, which brings renowned artists to campus to collaborate with students on print editions. Mason Gross School of the Arts, a vibrant community of artists and scholars with academic programs in music, theater, dance, filmmaking, and art & design, is committed to pursuing excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.
