Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
All applicants must be 18 years of age at the start of the L.G. Cook 4-H Camp summer season.

Childcare or residential camp experience is preferred, either in previous job settings or the L.G. Cook 4-H Camp Counselor in Training program.
Certifications/Licenses
No certifications or licenses are required to serve in most cabin counselor, kitchen, support, and senior staff positions.

Lifeguard applicants must hold (or intend to complete by summer) valid Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.

Infirmary staff are required to hold either a First Responder, EMT, Athletic Trainer, RN or LPN certification.

Applicants for the Recreation Course Area will be provided with a 4-H Archery Training Certificate by 4-H Camp. All staff will be trained in First Aid/CPR/AED during staff training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
L.G. Cook 4-H Camp looks for positive, energetic problem solvers.

The primary role of all staff is to devote 100% of their attention, care, and creativity to our campers. This includes individual attention to tailor our program to the specific needs of each camper, while simultaneously building a program and environment that is beneficial to the whole 4-H Camp community.

4-H Camp is based on interaction, and all staff must be able to socialize and support our youth aged 8-16, as well as their fellow staff members.

Various skills, depending on role at 4-H Camp, may be required or utilized to run activities throughout our general Summer Camp, as well as to teach classes in our Environmental Education, Creative Arts, Waterfront, Recreation, and Community Course Areas.
Equipment Utilized
Use of various recreational equipment and cleaning supplies may be required depending on job position. Staff will receive training as to use and operation for any pertinent equipment.

Staff will also receive training in use of AED and Epi-pens.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
4-H Camp is an active, rustic environment. Staff must have the ability to navigate and lead campers over uneven dirt paths and wooded terrain. 4-H Camp has buildings and programming locations based all over its 108 acres of woods, and staff will often be tasked with traveling across the Camp facility with their campers.

Camp days are long, and staff must have the endurance to be able to lead multiple active games and recreational activities and continuously supervise their campers (including during rest and mealtimes) around the clock.

Counselor staff reside in a rustic cabin with the children in their care. Senior Staff and support staff live in similarly rustic staff facilities. Staff should be comfortable sleeping in bunks and using communal restrooms.

Staff are on duty for the entirety of the residential camp session. Time off is given daily, but outside of that scheduled time staff are responsible for the children in their care at all times.

No alcohol or drugs are permitted on site in the summer season. If offered a position, other prohibited materials and behavior expectation will be detailed in the 4-H Camp Code of
Conduct.

Sleep in bunks.

Statement
Working at 4-H Camp is a fun and rewarding experience, but it is also a demanding and challenging one.

If an applicant reaches the interview phase, they will have the opportunity to learn a good deal more about the details and expectations of a 4-H Summer Camp day, and ask their own questions to ensure the experience would be right for them.
