The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites applications for adjunct faculty opportunities in the Textile/Surface Design Department, within the School of Art and Design.

Job Description:

The Textile/Surface Design department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions in screen printing for the textile industry. Candidates have experience in textile print design and screen printing on fabric. Ideal candidates have strong color skills and expertise using Photoshop to create repeat designs and color separations. Candidates must be able to communicate industry standard practices and language.

Possible courses are TD101 Experimental Screen Printing, TD161 Fundamentals of Screen Printing, TD262 Advanced Screen printing, TD362 Screen Printing Accessory Design, TD263 Screen Printing- Advanced T-shirts and Related Items, TD361 Screen Printing Scarves.

Adjunct instructors deliver relevant course material, assess student performance, provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades in a timely manner. Course descriptions are available in the online .


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor of Arts/Fine Arts degree and/or Master of Arts/Fine Arts degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years industry experience in the textile or screen-printing industry.
  • Experience at the senior level such as senior designer, design director, workshop manager etc.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience overseeing and utilizing a screen print studio, working with water based pigment inks, mixing custom ink colors.
  • Expertise in technical screen print knowledge for yardage and accessories. Experience designing for screen print with Photoshop, including ability to teach repeats, layouts, and color separation.
  • Traditional drawing and painting skills are a plus.


Additional Information:

This is a part-time position, adjunct teaching position. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. Starting Salary

The dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. The hourly rate and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience.
Starting Rate: $77.43 per hour
