Job Description

The Business Risk Senior Manager accomplishes results through the management of professional team(s) and department(s). Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Contributes to standards around which others will operate. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function. Requires basic commercial awareness. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Has responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness and delivery of end results of an area. May have responsibility for planning, budgeting and policy formulation within area of expertise. Involved in short-term planning resource planning. Full management responsibility of a team, which may include management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary and terminations and may include budget approval.

  • Partners with the team on all new or modified processes to review through the appropriate governance routines and launch with adequate controls which can be monitored and reported.
  • Ensures internal reviews and external examinations are well managed with clearly evidenced controls.
  • Provided support of assigned business area by attending and participating in business meeting routines to provide control related updates to the team and learn about any new initiatives the team will need to support.
  • Proactively identifies emerging risks and assists the control team with resolving control gaps and issues and helps to create corrective action plans, inclusive of root cause identification and resolution.
  • Ad hoc control / audit related requests as needed.
  • Serve as partner on Manager Control Assessment (MCA) Quarterly Risk Assessment and the Annual Risk Assessment process.
  • Actively focus on process improvement, creating efficiencies, and ensuring proactive approach and partnership to audit management
  • Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
  • Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
  • Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
  • Ability to manage teams.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years exeperience in management, risk management and/or regulatory compliance in one or more of the following risk disciplines: technology risk, business continuity, operational risk, supplier risk, or audit and controls. Broad knowledge of other risk areas, with strong understanding of supplier or third-party risk impact in a financial services company is a plus . Demonstrates knowledge of in-scope business and product areas
  • Project management and governance experience with demonstrated ability to achieve and exceed critical milestones. *
  • Must have a Outstanding leadership, communication, and influencing skills as this leader will work with Sr leaders, and audit partners on a regular basis.
  • Ability to foster working relationships with other leaders across multiple lines of business and with support organizations, including auditors and regulators. *
  • Demonstrated judgement and critical thinking skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Masters degree

Overview & Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong cross-functional expertise who is excited by the opportunity and challenge to drive major transformation initiatives across our firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong vision for creating& implementing change that will move our organization forward by delivering tangible benefits. In particular, the Strategy & Transformation Lead will be a dedicated professional with a multi-disciplinary background that includes expertise in two or more of the following areas: Credit Risk Management & Underwriting, Market Risk Management and/or Quantitative Risk, Regulatory Interaction, Project Management, Enterprise Risk & Governance.

The Strategy & Transformation Lead will be the primary owner/project manager for delivering against key strategic milestones; this is a high-visibility role that provides the right candidate with an opportunity to own the end-to-end delivery against key transformation milestones. Initially, the Strategy & Transformation Lead will focus on projects related to Citi's ICG Markets Business (and related 2LoD functions); examples of projects/responsibilities may include: developing/improving underwriting standards, working to create a margin framework, delivering portfolio monitoring improvements, evolving the breadth of Citi's analytical tools and communicating progress to senior management. To be successful, the candidate should have excellent teambuilding skills and a demonstrated ability to build consensus and maintain strategic focus on key deliverables/objectives. The role will require extensive coordination among internal stakeholders to maintain and meet internal standards. The ideal candidate will have several of the following traits: a well-established track-record of balancing risk/reward, credit approval authority (CO/SCO), excellent review & challenge skills, in-depth familiarity with 2nd Line Roles & Responsibilities (and the ability to translate those to Citi's new 1LoD Target Operating Model).

Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementation / stand-up of CCR milestones related to Citi's target operating model. This includes design, implementation, and effective execution of applicable policies, procedures, technology and tools, operating model, training, control and governance processes to create sustainable solutions.
  • Lead engagement across ICG Businesses, and 2LoD to achieve Citi's milestone related goals.
  • Contribute to an improved global culture of excellence in analysis, underwriting, monitoring that drives global consistency
  • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, organizations and businesses.
  • Own oversight / preparation / delivery of key program deliverables for use at Oversight meetings.
  • Assess the current state of change activity across transformation initiatives; identify strengths and opportunities for improvement and deliver a set of best practice recommendations

Regulatory / Control Responsibilities

  • Supports ICM on internal audit and compliance reviews and regulatory exams
  • Assess regulatory changes and feedback that will impact areas of CCR Risk Management; work with MRA & CAP owners to deliver results against Citi's action plans. as well as related MRAs and CAPS
    • Ensure high quality execution across area of remit for any Citi or ICM-initiated programs, in coordination with Global 1LoD & 2LoD functions

Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Lead PM efforts across ICM and 2LoD to track, report and accomplish key deliverables related to MRAs/ CAPs and other strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the communication of status, issues, and risk disposition to all stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Develop global relationships and partnerships with Tech, Risk, Finance, Market Risk and Controls to drive strategic landscape.
  • Identify and drive resolution of issues, including those outside established programs of work (i.e. WCR/CCR Program).
  • Work with resource management function to ensure resources are available to implement transformation plans.

  • Highly Analytical; accurately analyzes information and drills down to core risk/reward issues
  • Problem solving ability; quickly assess complex processes and delivers practical solutions

  • Ability to collaborate across businesses, regions, and control functions. Adeptly navigates organizational complexity and breaks silos
  • Provides well-reasoned, balanced assessments of risk/return trade-offs on strategic initiatives and project planning decisions
  • Ability to provide strategic insights and strong sensitivity to macro and regulatory issues, and impact of such issues
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Demonstrates strong ethics and integrity
  • Credit Officer designation highly desirable.
  • Track record of effective regulatory communications & engagement highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in Risk Management with knowledge of wholesale credit risk.
  • 2+ years of Project Management experience and ability to partner with Business & Technology stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of project goals.
  • Technical knowledge and strong understanding of Counterparty Credit Risk, Global Markets Trading, Market Risk.
  • Familiar with internal Citigroup systems, organizations and regulatory/strategic milestones & commitments
  • Experience in a complex organization focused on credit approval, governance, controls and risk management
  • Understanding of the WCR Target Operating Model body-of-work is a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter, flexible, innovative, and adaptive.
