THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Staff Associate I is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers. The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is the top in comparison with other pediatrics department in the NY region in NIH research funding. The Staff Associate I enhance the operational and organizational capabilities of our research. The Biostatistician will analyze complex data, conduct statistical research, and provide valuable insight for decision-making, will optimize our study design, sample size determination, randomization strategies, and statistical power calculations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply statistical principles and methods to analyze and interpret data relating to mother-child outcomes of COVID-19 to contribute to medical research and public health
  • Collaborate with other researchers to design studies. This could include determining research questions, appropriate sample sizes, developing sampling strategies, and assisting in selecting appropriate study designs. This would also include selecting and developing data collection tools and methods, including surveys and questionnaires, to ensure accurate data collection, storage, and dissemination
  • Analyze collected data using regression analyses, hypothesis testing, and other statistical methods to explore relationships, identify patterns, and assess the significance of findings. Data analysis, cleaning, and management will using statistical software packages such as R, SAS, or SPSS to clean. This role will also entail quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy and integrity. This includes assessing data quality, identify outliers or errors, and implement appropriate corrective measures
  • Communicate findings with collaborators, colleagues, and people outside of the scientific community for feedback and for discussing areas of improvement, clarification, and/or further research. This can involve presentations, written reports, and poster presentations among others, that often involve visualizations such as charts, graphs, and tables to facilitate understanding
  • Review scientific articles, attend conferences, and participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills and stay updated with advancements in statistical methodologies and relevant literature in the field
  • Ensure privacy and confidentiality of data, comply with ethical guidelines, and promote responsible data use by adhering to ethical standards in research involving human subjects and sensitive data
