Posting Summary
The primary role of Senior Biostatistician is to provide independent statistical support to CINJ principal investigators including statistical study design, statistical programming, data manipulation, data analysis, guided by a CINJ Biostatistics faculty member. The Senior Biostatistician will participate in statistical methodology research led by a CINJ Biostatistics faculty member. The Senior Biostatistician will also assist the Director in the reporting, tracking and billing of project requests.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide independent statistical support to CINJ research projects, in coordination with a faculty member in CINJ Biostatistics, including:
a. Critically evaluate statistical analysis plan for clinical trials and epidemiological study
b. Propose statistical analysis plans and sample size calculation
c. Prepare dataset appropriate for statistical analysis, e.g., cleaning up, merging, and reformatting data
d. Perform statistical data analysis, computation and programming using SAS and/or R
e. Support the conduct of clinical trials such as generating and maintaining randomization list
f. Manage and maintain study data
g. Participates in grant development and provide input into hypotheses and study design as well as developing power calculations and comprehensive statistical analysis plans.
h. Contribute towards the writing of professional presentation and manuscript publication, including writing clear and concise statistical methodology sections and summarizing results in text, tables, and figures.

  • Assist the faculty members of CINJ Biostatistics on statistical method research and grant application.
  • Perform related tasks assigned by the Director of CINJ Biostatistics, including tracking project requests, completion progress, and estimating hours required for completion. Assists with the maintenance of client records and invoicing upon project completion.
  • Understand and adhere to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Understand, demonstrate, and represent the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey core values.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • A PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology or related field is required, plus a minimum of three (3) years' work experience in biomedical research in academia, government, or industry.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge on current statistical techniques and data analysis.
  • SAS and/or R statistical programming skill is required.
  • Experience in database management and manipulating large databases (e.g. R/tidyverse) are highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects with efficient time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with biomedical researchers. Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong academic publication record in biomedical research is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
