The highly skilled individual will also have an appointment as the Technical Director for the Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research (CAHBIR) on the Busch campus in Piscataway, NJ.
The person will be in charge of the technical operations of the CAHBIR. CAHBIR has recently purchased a new Siemens 3T Prisma Magneton scanner. In their capacity as Technical Director of the Center, the individual will oversee day-to-day operations of the scanner, develop and execute plans for quality control, assist in the optimization of scanning procedures for different scanning projects and assist the Director in supporting the long-term research mission of the center. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
*Take a leadership role in developing operating procedures for the new MRI center, including safety and quality control procedures and supervise the adherence of these procedures.
*Develop and execute a plan for the assessment of the capabilities of the new MRI scanner, and evaluation of the scanner's adherence to expectation.
*Lead the implementation of in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy at the center.
*Modify and evaluate pulse sequences in order to optimize data collection.
*Provide advice to center users on technical issues including selection of scan sequences.
*Assist in decision-making of purchases to support the center's mission including evaluation of upgrades of existing resources.
*Supervise staff and assist in the development of training protocols, and lead training sessions for users of the center.
*Assist in developing the data processing infrastructure of the center, including transfer of data to external investigators.
*Facilitate trans-institutional research collaborations and provide technical expertise to non-Rutgers entities as part of service agreements executed by CAHBIR..
*Contribute to the writing and performance of research and instrumentation grants.
*Understand and implement compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy, and Investigational Review Board.
*Keep abreast of developments in the MR field in order to maximize the use of state of the art imaging procedures.
*Keep abreast of all federal, state and Rutgers University regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified and pertain to the Center and the Research Assistant Professor's work.

The position requires a doctoral degree (PhD) in a science relevant to neuroimaging, and at least 10 years of post-doctoral technical or research experience related to magnetic resonance imaging. Relevant sciences may include Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Biological Science or Neuroscience. In addition, we prefer candidates with direct experience in a management role within a research MRI center. The candidate must bring expertise in MRI hardware, and be capable of trouble-shooting problems as they arise. Experience with the process of bringing a new magnet online is an essential requirement of the position. Substantial experience in pulse sequencing is required, as the successful applicant must be able to assist in the introduction and optimization of a range of sequences for the scanner. We prefer candidates who have experience with In Vivo MR Spectroscopy. We expect that candidates will have experience in federal grant writing to substantially contribute to the generation of shared instrumentation grants and assist with research grants as appropriate.
We offer a highly competitive salary. With over 250 neuroscience faculty labs engaged in basic and clinical research, and proximity to New York, Princeton and Philadelphia neuroscience communities, Rutgers offers tremendous collaborative opportunities and core facilities. Rutgers values a culturally diverse faculty; we strongly encourage applications from female and minority candidates. Applicants should submit a CV and statement of research accomplishments and plans to Dr. David Zald, the Chair of the search committee, at bhi@ca.rutgers.edu.
