POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of ICAP's Clinical and Training Unit, the Associate Research Scientist (Senior Technical Specialist, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health) is responsible for technical planning and implementation of an international technical assistance (TA) program, with a focus on maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (MNCAH), family planning (FP), sexual reproductive health (SRH) and prevention of vertical transmission of HIV. Builds and strengthens strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, global partners, donors and national stakeholders through active networking to shape the global agenda for health and wellbeing of women and children and prevention of vertical transmission of HIV. Serves as site principal investigator for domestic HIV prevention clinical trials.

• Provides technical leadership and oversight to advance scale up of the Triple Elimination agenda (10%)
• Represents ICAP at relevant donor and international meetings focused on HIV in women, adolescent girls and young women, family planning and sexual reproductive health (5%)
• Actively participates in the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of a variety of technical projects, programs, and activities undertaken by ICAP (10%)
• Leads and provides technical assistance to scale up prevention of vertical transmission of HIV interventions within MNCAH services, and integration of family planning and sexual reproductive health, including the design of programs in partnership with in-country teams and the provision of clinical mentorship, didactic teaching, and guidance to ICAP in-country staff to enhance technical capacity at the national, regional, and local levels (15%)
• Leads the development and/or refinement of materials, including technical updates, clinical guidelines, protocols, algorithms, information, education and counseling materials and other clinical support tools, with a focus on MNCAH, sexual reproductive health and family planning (10%)
• Works with ICAP country teams and ICAP's Strategic Information Unit to design methods for collection of relevant data as well as interpretation of data, and support local use of data to enhance the delivery of high quality, evidence-based MNCAH programs (5%)
• Conducts visits to country programs to provide supervision and technical assistance in clinical issues including reviewing workplans, progress and challenges and conducting site visits to provide clinical mentorship and to assess quality of care and adherence to standards of care. (20%)
• Serves as Site Principal Investigator for domestic HIV prevention clinical trials (15%)
• Oversees and/or actively participates in the preparation of grant proposals and renewals relevant to ICAP; provide technical expertise for other grant writing activities within ICAP (5%)
• Perform other assigned tasks (5%)

• MD, DO, or professional equivalent.
• NY State medical license
• Master's degree in public health preferred

• Minimum five (5) years of experience developing public health programs and providing technical support related to maternal and child health in resource- limited settings
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with donors and other stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience working in and managing technical teams, as well as working independently with minimal supervision
• Strong knowledge of sexual reproductive health issues related to the management of adolescent girls, young women, pregnant and breastfeeding women, including prevention of vertical transmission of HIV, early infant diagnosis, and antiretroviral treatment
• Experience working with international and national working groups in developing plans and/or national guidelines and tools
• Excellent understanding of public health approach to effectively introduce and scale sustainable new health interventions
• Experience with human subjects research
• Demonstrated and successful experience working in multi-cultural environments
• Excellent understanding of public health approach to HIV prevention, maternal health and preventing childhood mortality in resource-limited settings
• Excellent communication skills (written and spoken English)
• Fluency in Portuguese and/or French
• Demonstrated experience in public speaking on clinical care issues in a manner which reflects subject matter expertise
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires international or domestic travel up to 20% time
